The Process
The following standard process is tailored to suit the particular needs of your school.
Experience has shown that 90% of the success of any change initiative lies in the planning, and considerable effort is given to that area.
We provide schools with written guidelines and checklists at the start of the planning phase.
Stage 1 - Pre Planning
1.1 Purpose/Need. Formulate a clear statement of purpose or need (expressed in an appreciative opportunity based manner and less than 3 lines)
1.2 Stakeholder Groups. Identify internal and external stakeholder groups that need to be involved and take ownership (ie what are the parts of the school system that need to connect around the issue).
1.3 Identify Outcomes. If the issue is successfully addressed what will be different?
1.4 Planning Group and Funding. Identify possible Planning Group members (ideally representing most stakeholder groups) who will take responsibility for the initiative and invite involvement from those people.
Stage 2 - Planning
2.1 Purpose and Stakeholders. First meeting of the Planning Group with particular focus on further framing of the purpose, title and outcomes, identifying stakeholders who need to be involved, how to get them involved and funding (if relevant).
2.2 Design and Follow Up. Second meeting of the Planning Group to settle on design, logistical issues and possible follow up.
2.3 Planning Group Work. Work by the Planning Group to ensure attendance and cover off on logistical issues.
2.4 Assessing Progress. Third meeting of the planning group to assess progress and consider potential long term follow up (ie post the initiative)
Stage 3 – Future Search
Essential to our approach is the large group structured Future Search meeting. However, in order to maximise engagement and input from all stakeholders, some schools choose to precede this Future Search meeting with other elements including small group meetings or forums, surveys and online communication. It is also possible to proceed the meeting with a short information meeting of stakeholders who were unable to attend the Future Search to advise of the outcomes and invite ongoing involvement.
